Our History
Everett Roehl started a lot more than a trucking company when he began operations in 1962 with a single truck. He began building a team of dedicated professionals as he guided the team that built Roehl Transport into one of our nation's 100 largest motor carriers. He insisted that the company be based on values and he modeled those values for every member of TeamRoehl to emulate. According to Everett, "What we're really delivering is confidence - that load is one less thing the customer needs to worry about. And satisfaction - the good feelings customers have when we meet their needs and expectations." Those words became building blocks for an industry leader and can still be found in our purpose statement that hangs on the wall in every Roehl location. Another poster that is frequently seen describes many of the values that are woven into the fabric of our company.
Today, Roehl Transport is still driven by the values that Everett modeled so long ago. From simple, personal life rules like honesty and integrity, to business basics like cost and quality consciousness, to our cornerstone value of safety. Our values are reflected in our day-to-day operations.
From the single truck Everett operated, we've grown to over 2,100 employees, with a fleet of over 1,700 tractors and more than 3,900 trailers. Everett Roehl Trucking became Roehl Transport, Inc. in 1982, as the name was changed to reflect the scope of our business. TeamRoehl grew rapidly during the 80's after Motor Carrier Deregulation eased the business restrictions previously faced by carriers. In the 90's, satellite communications and improved information systems helped fuel continued growth.
In 2002, Rick Roehl became the President and Chief Operating Officer of the company, continuing the course Everett laid out so long ago. Roehl Transport continues to lead the industry in several ways.
In 2005, the American Trucking Associations (ATA) chose Roehl as a "Twenty From the Top" carrier for the 12th consecutive year. This distinction recognizes Roehl as one of the most well managed carriers in the nation. No other carrier has ever earned this distinction as frequently.
The ATA also recognizes Roehl as one of the safest carriers in the nation in it's annual Safety Award Contest.
- 2004: Second place in the large truckload category
- 2005: Third place in the large truckload category (our van division)
- 2005: Second place in the small truckload category (our flatbed division)
In 2003, Roehl introduced another industry-leading initiative. The Roehl Way™ of
Protective Driving is a program that introduces the Safe Seven driving techniques.
Unlike the various defensive driving programs available, The Roehl Way™ appeals
to all participants to base their driving decisions on their personal values,
particularly the value of safety.
When
truck driving decisions are based on the ethics of the driver, other motorists
are protected from the potential aftermath of an accident. Participants learn
that each of us has the ability - and the responsibility - to help make the
highways safer for everyone. With the creation and implementation of The Roehl
Way™, Roehl demonstrates to the industry that safety truly is our cornerstone
value.
